How to use ION with no snapshot and therefore no Direct Access buttons

So I'm programming my first ION show, and it appears to me that with no snapshot (am I right there), that it is impossible to easily control the screens for diffrent setups which is a must with not much screen real-estate and no touch screens.

Surely it cannot be the case  that I have to go to the CIA to get a set of DA buttons, and then go back to the CIA to clear it so I can see the output???

There has to be another way that I'm missing here... Any pointers?

  • Hi Jim,

You are working with 2 monitors right? (did you get the second one working?)

Where are you opening the Direct Selects? If you open in the Upper or Lower Left of the display you should get a split screen with channels/Direct Selects. Opening as a Primary Display will hide your channel view - is this the problem?

Assuming you are working in v1.8 you won't have any Snapshots yet. Snapshots and Tabs are included in 1.9 for Ion, which is really close to release now.

  • Hi Graham.

    Yes, 2 monitors.

I need a page of DA buttons, which can be saved as a view and then recalled exactly as I set them up.  I need to be able to repeat this for different configurations of DAs

I then need to be able to recall the normal output screen and lose the DAs.

Its not acceptable (useable) to only be able to get a DA screen up using the CIA, and then having to do the same to get rid of it again before being able to see the whole output screen. Too slow and too cumbersome.  What about Tabs on ION?  Did I miss something here too?

When you say 'really close', is that tomorrow, or the day after?

    Cheers, Jim

  • Hi Jim,

I think your best bet with 1.8 software, is to grab a laptop and Client Dongle and run these as extra monitors in a second user scenario, so that you can have more monitors visable at one time.

Tabs is a 1.9 release too, so unfortunately, you're doing your first Ion show about 2 weeks too early!! 1.9 is going to cover everything you want and a whole lot more! Maybe someone could get you access to a Beta if you ask nicely! (Would have popped round and done it myself except according to Nick Richings you're in China!!)

Hope that helps a bit...without rubbing in that 1.9 is what you need!
