Shuffling the parameter deck

I'm using an Ion and attempting to get my moving in to a more flexible position for working live.
Here's what I've done so far.  I've gone into patch and made a copy of my fixture (Elation DS575 E).
Then I took the parameters for Beam fx, Edge, and Focus and moved them into some intensity parameter
slots, I rarely use the intensity pallet. I took both gobo rotation parameters and moved them to
some shutter parameter slots since my shutters show up under Form.
This allows me to set the focus, edge and beam FX independantly of the gobo.
I built Intensity pallets with the following attributes.

Gobo Wheel 1 in focus zoomed in all the way.
Gobo Wheel 1 in focus zoomed out all the way.
Gobo Wheel 1 in focus zoomed half way.

Ditto for Gobo wheel 2

Beam Fx no prism
Beam Fx prism in no rotation
Beam Fx prism in slow rotation
yada yada yada.

It works pretty good , I can select a gobo zoom to where I want and add the beam fx, then change the gobo
without affecting any of my other beam (intensity ) settings.  I can also rotate the gobo using the two
shutter parameters . Alas there is no shutter pallet.

Here's the question(s)
1. Is there a way to re-label the parameters so they don't show up in the encoder wheels as
"Frame Angle 1" , or "Frame Angle 2"  when I really want them to read "Gobo rotate 1" or "Gobo rotate 2"

2. Is there any plans to add shutter pallets ??

If anyone can come up with more Ideas on this , I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks
Dan

  • Parameters are currently set.

Shutters are part of the beam category.

You can make beam palettes that only include a single item rather then changing what category something is in why not record just what you want into the palette and keep them in the categories that they started in.

I have a beam palette that just sets rotation mode for gobo 2

What I usually do it use selective recording and filters to specify what I want recorded into a palette.

Example:  chan 1 thru 5 "beam 2 rotation" record beam palette 5

You can use the Left side of the CIA where it posts the attributes to select the exact attribute, or attributes, to record.

You can also edit your existing palettes in blind to remove unwanted attributes.

select the channels and attributes you want to remove and hit "at enter" those items will be removed from the palette.

These are just a couple ways you can be more specific about what is in your palettes and presets.

    Hope this helps.

  • Yes it does Andrew.  I forgot about the filters.  I'll revert to my original moving light profile and play around with the filters to see what I can come up with.  I've had my ions for all of two months so I'm still discovering things.  Thanks for the help

  • You might want to check out ETC's training DVD's They have 2 for the Ion and an advanced DVD for the Eos family that applies to the Ion.   The DVD's have a huge amount of information on the console.

Don't forget you can always hold down the "Help" key and press any other key/softkey/button to get a description and some examples of how to use it.

  • I took your advice and used the record filters and it worked like a hot damn !

I can get all the effects that I need while working live.  The only thing that didn't work was that my fixtures have two gobo wheels and when I filtered down to just one both were still affected. If I changed gobo wheel 1 I would lose the gobo in gobo wheel 2. So again I took your advice and went blind to edit the pallets and nulled out the gobo wheel 2 parameter in all gobo wheel 1 pallets and the same for gobo wheel 2 pallets. I am now able to gobo morph while live.

Thanks again for your help Andrew

    Cheers

    Dan
