USB flaky

My Ion, new in October '09, has recently stopped reading/seeing my USB drives, via the facepanel USB port.  These are Microcenter 1g drives that I've had a few years and that had, up to a week or so ago, worked fine on this port.

The rear USB conection, which is a powered USB hub off a rear console USB port, reads these UsB drives fine.

A visiting LD used a Cruzer mini USB today on the facepanel port with no issues.

Any thoughts ?, and is the console due for a deep clear ?,

And if a deep clear is needed, how does it affect anything ?.

Thanx in advance

  • Hello Steve,

A deep clear should not effect how the console handles USB Drives.  The Deep clear Purges persistent storage.  That is show file state, screen layout, Direct select setup, and settings.   This is why you need to reload your show after a deep clear.

Do you have problems with any other USB devices or drives in that port?

    Matt

  • Seems to be the particular thumb drives, as I just tried the Kingston provided with the console and the port finds it no problem

Probably some flaky USB drives.  I'll try a format on the laptop and see if it restores use.

But on an add'l note, I've had the desk 6 mos. know, and am wondering if ETC recommends a deep clear every once in a while...

    Thanks

    Steve B.

  • We do not have a particular recommendation on this.  Most people do not need to deep clear their consoles.  However, feel free to Deep clear as often as you like.  It will not harm anything.

BTW The console is effectively deep cleared every time you update software.

PS How did the format work?

  • "BTW The console is effectively deep cleared every time you update software."

Good point and I went to 1.8.2, 2 weeks ago to get a rental Net3 RVI to talk to Ion, so no need and I'll be upgrading to 1.9 at some point.

I just wasn't sure if deep clear works like re-booting Windowz, which you need to do sometimes to get stuff like USB gear to be seen again.

"PS How did the format work?"

Din't get time to check as it was load out time.

Knowing that a Cruzer as well as a Kingston USB drives work, where my cheapies don't I'll suspect the console is fine.

    Thanks for the help,

    Steve B.

  • I have also had this problem on my Eos as well.  Usb drive was working fine for about 6 months and then all the sudden quite working on my front drvies.  Every other thumb drive works fine but the micro thumb drive stopped!
