why is it when I choose a specific group direct select button and highlight it the other group direct selects also move up in intensity.
The group direct selects (just like the other types of direct selects) show how the current selection is related to the direct selects.
This example tells you that all channels currently selected (i.e. Group 3) is also part of group 4. Groups 1 and 2 show a gradient because the current selection is only partially related to the current selection.
Intensity Palette 1 also shows the gradient to say that some of the currently selected channels will work with IP 1, the other channels of group 3 don't hold any values in that palette.
