Looking for MSEX. . . Ion ArtNet Arkaos and Bears! Oh My!

Have I missed something?  The Arkaos website says that Arkaos MediaMaster  and MSEX are fully supported by Ion and Eos.

Did the Ion get MSEX added to it when I wasn't looking?  Have I been missing out on some good MSEX lovin'?

  • I know that there is a profile for MediaMaster, but is the MSEX protocol via ArtNet actually supported by the Ion? i.e. will the Ion populate with my clips, images, and other features?

  • First of all, I should point out that MSEX has nothing to do with ArtNet. The two are unrelated network protocols designed to do very different things:

    • ArtNet is a proprietary DMX-over-ethernet protocol created by Artistic Licence, who have historically allowed royalty-free use of their protocol.
    • MSEX is an optional part of CITP, which is a media-server and live visualisation data interchange protocol administered by Capture Sweden.

Many devices support one but not the other - CITP-MSEX would be pointless in a moving light, while some moving lights do support ArtNet.

To answer your question, the Eos Family doesn't currently include CITP MSEX, but it does support ArtNet so will easily control a MediaMaster over a network.

  • The connection from Ion to and Arkaos programs such as MediaMaster is accomplished via ArtNet.  This connection is then supposed to allow the use of MSEX to populate the fixtures as it does on the Congo.

According to the Arkaos website, MSEX is supported by the Eos and the Ion.

So the information on the Arkaos site is wrong.  That doesn't really surprise me too much.
