Ion Faders set as submasters

There is probably a simple answer to this question, but I am much more versed in set design versus lighting operation...so, please bear with me.

Our stage is set up into 15 different areas, each placed on a fader set to a submaster.  Hypothetically speaking, let's say that I want Q1 to be Areas 2, 5, and 10.  Q2 should be Area 3...and so on.  When I bring up Areas 2, 5, and 10 and record that as a cue and then bring down the submasters, the lights in those subs stay on.  I have done what I thought were the right answers to my issue and hit Record Cue Only and then even turned off the tracking.  Neither of those answers were the solution that I needed.  On the Express, this worked like a dream...and on the Ion I am having a harder time teaching my students to record "simple" cues.

Any idea on how to fix that issue?

    Even though you're not in "Tracking" mode, the Eos/Ion/Elements are still Tracking consoles, in that the levels you set for Q1 will automaticaly be present when you want to record Q2. Those levels will be represented in Blue when you take the sub to zero, indicating the levels are in a cue and are new levels and the cue is live.

    If all you want on for Q2 is the channel/sub for Area 3, then you need to take out all other levels. 

    Fastest way to do this ? - Press Go to Cue 0 Enter and all intensities for any cue on stage will go out.  Then add the sub for Area 3, and record the cue, repeating as required.

    Think of the Ion as a console that does add'l thinking for you as compared to the Express. On Express you would add the sub, and record the cue.  If you didn't load the cue to either the A/B or C/D faders, all you did was record a cue, you are not actually seeing it live.  When you remove the sub and press release, the console has all levels out. If you wanted to actually be seeing the output of the cues, you would have to manually load the cue to a fader - Cue 1 Go, as example and subsequently take that cue out to see a blank stage.

    On Ion, the automatic playback function (which can be toggled off in setup) assumes you want to see the results of the cue, thus it autoloads to the main playback saving some steps.

    Once you get your head wrapped around it, I believe you'll start seeing the advantages, as I did, though it took a while after programming on Express for 10 years
