ION showing offline instead of primary

Lately my Ion has been showing "Offline" on the LCD display and primary display instead of "Primary" like I would expect.  I know I'm running as primary, since the console is still outputting DMX.  This happens as soon as I boot up and stays there with multiple reboots.

I generally run the console stand alone using local DMX output or as a client for my EOS (where "client" is displayed as expected) so don't know if this is causing any problems with networking.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is this some kind of known issue?

When I first noticed the problem I was running 1.8.something and it has continued since the upgrade to 1.9

  • I don't really think this is anything to worry about. I usually see this when running DMX only. It's when you have a bunch of network devices that there would be a concern.

Only be concerned if you have the console plugged into a network system.  If you are running a DMX based system and have nothing plugged into the network jack this is normal.  When you’re working on an EOS, there is a built in switch, so you are always connected to a network.  Ion however doesn't.  This also means that if you are planning on connecting to a network, you must power down the console and connect it to a network switch before powering up the Ion.  I hope this helps.

  • Hi,

Bryan is correct, but since this is confusing to a lot of people, we have written it up as SCR 12018.  This should be fixed in 1.9.5.

    Thanks,

    Ann

  • As a quick guide until 1.9.5 is released:

If offline is in Red, that means that the console did not detect any ethernet network activity when you started the application (Primary, Backup, Client). If you are using an ethernet connection, check your cables and device you are connecting to then exit Ion and relaunch as Primary, Backup or Client. If you are not using an ethernet connection, please ignore the offline indication.

If offline is in Amber, the application actually is in offline mode. To fix, exit Ion and choose Primary, Backup, or Client.
