The 4th addition to the EOS family

Hi all,

Just been watching Anne's great little console history video (great little insight THANKS)

http://isquint.net/2010/anne-valentino-console-history-at-usitt-2010/

Thats the link if anyone hasnt seen it.

I was very intregued by your last words being an new adition to the EOS family later down the line.
Just wondering weather anything can be shead about it or is it all hush hush at the moment?

  • Ruh-Roh. Anne is making promises again....

  • Just make sure that no one is allowed to take the prototype out of the office and to the local bar. You may end up with pictures of it smeared all over the internet like a certain other hot electronics product.

  • Actually, that IS a part of our marketing plan. Besides, how else am I going to get people to come out to my birthday party?

  • I hope it won't be called a GEO- that would mean all 4 products in the series share the names of automobiles or vehicles sold in the US:

Volkswagen EOS, Saturn ION, Honda ELEMENT, Chevrolet GEO

As long as it's not named the PINTO...

    I'm just sayin...

  • So I've never seen a thread regarding the naming of the consoles in this family..... But my thoughts.

Element - Elements are the building blocks of all else. So the element console is the base of the family. It has a little bit of everything in it, but but they are not all put together so you don't get all the features.

Ion - Start combining Elements, steal an atom to give it a charge and you get Ions. More complex more features.

Eos - In Greek mythology Eos opens the gates of heaven, which lets Apollo ride across the sky. Apollo is the god of light, so the Eos is what makes light available to all. No limits. Also no real Geoscience tie in that I can see...

So if we go with the Geo as in Geology, the earths make up, it is a combinations of lots and lots of Ions, but it still isn't the full deal.

Maybe if there is a console above the Eos it could be called the Forty-Two?

Obviously I've had too much time on my hands today.

Let's not forget the Chevy EXPRESS van, Honda INSIGHT, Plymouth ACCLAIM, and the Eagle VISION

Before ETC acquired Avab, their consoles shared the names with the GMC SAFARI van and JAGUAR

    Food for thought.

  • "Too much time on  his hands" is exactly what Fred uttered ten years ago when one of our senior engineers wrote this email during our attempts to name the new console:

"While the Expression of your Insightful Vision has gained you wide Acclaim,

my Impression is that you're Obsessing on Emphasizing that the Concept was on

Par with your best Ideas, and while I can Sense Or perhaps Imagine the Source

For this Enthusiasm I can't Express strongly enough that you shouldn't Focus

    on this Impulse.

Please don't all of you groan in Unison."

Sorry, I couldn't help mentioning it.

One the most 'IN' jokes going in the already specialised world of performance lighting. Made me smile though!
