Steppy fade times with dimmers?

Hey everyone

We are using an EOS as a Client and an ION as primary in tech and when cues fade I am seeing some of the lights step as they fade. Not a smooth fade as it should be. Any thoughts out there?

  • I'm assuming you're using Sensor+ dimmers.  Are you running this via DMX, Net2 EDMX, or sACN Networking?  How steppy is the curve (i.e. goes up 10%, pauses, up another 10%, pauses, or just noticable to the trained eye, but still a consistent fade?)  The type of steppiness may help diagnose this further.

  • Its EDMX or Net 3. We have CEM+s. And it looks like+10 pause like you said. And its more than an Untrained eye thing. ETC gave me some ideas, but thoughts or Ideas would be great.

  • Do you have an architectural control system as well on the network (i.e. Paradigm or Unison?)  If so, can you shut it down or unplug it from the network temporarily to see if it affects the fade curves.   If so, perhaps there's a conflict.

Does this happen if you narrow it down to one console? (i.e. use the EOS or the ION only, and disconnect the other one?)

If you have a wired DMX line into the dimmer, does it happen that way as well?

Beyond that, I'm curious what you find with the help of support.

Keep the board posted if you don't mind.

    Thanks.

  • So after talking with support and fiddling with the racks, all is well. Turns out that there is a problem with the the new advanced features feature. Simply turning it off helped.

I am going to do a little more testing tomorrow. But hope to confirm tomorrow. Big thanks to Steve at ETC for answering my phone call on a Sunday.
