Controlling ceiling fans

I need to control a couple of ceiling fans from our Ion board.  Has anybody done this, or have any suggestions?  I assume I can't just control the fan directly from the board.

I'm thinking about using a circuit from the Ion to activate a relay that will apply power from a standard outlet to turn the fan on.  I'll put a fan controller (from home depot) in line to adjust the speed.

    - Yes, that is a useless answer.

More specifically, let's assume you're using Sensor+ dimmers:

If you set a Sensor+ dimmer to "Switched" mode, the channel is forced either fully on or fully off by the CEM+ processor, and things like min/max/regulation are turned off because they don't apply.

Secondly, the fade part of the default 'Wait and fade' response to loss of DMX (console turned off/unplugged) is replaced by 'snap off' at the appropriate point in the fade.

If you set the console to 'Full at 1%' (or similar), '100%' isn't necessarily 'Full' due to features like voltage regulation etc, and there will still be a fade on shutting down the console.

In  summary, it is considerably better to set the Switched mode at the dimmer if the load isn't really dimmable.
