Mirror Mode vs Client Mode

What is the best set up for EOS at the design table- I am primarily used to a standard Obsession/Expression RVI- but not the venue has upgraded to an ION at the Tech Table with an EOS in the Booth-

Is mirror mode the way to go or client mode?

Is there a macro to swap the ION between Mirror and Client Mode?

Basically I want the following-

Cue Sheet-

Command Line to see what is being typed-

Channels that follow what the LD Types-

Thoughts?

Forgive me if this is anawered ale

  • Found the Macro for Mirror Mode Info- But would still love any info about other tech table setup-

    Creating a Mirror Mode Macro
To create a macro to place a device in mirror mode:
Step 1: Set the User ID of all devices to match the Primary.
Step 2: Press ALT + M to open the mirror mode display.
Step 3: Highlight the device to mirror.
Step 4: Press [Learn] [x] [Enter] to record the macro.
To create a macro to exit mirror mode:
Step 5: With the console in mirror mode, press [Learn] [x] [Enter]
    Step 6: Press ALT + X
Step 7: Press [Learn] to finish recording the macro.
Once the macros are created, you should save the show and set all User IDs back.

  • Hey Chad,

If I remember correctly, in Client mode you have control over the screens and command line, so you could program, set the screens that you see, etc.  You would not see the programmer's command line, only the resulting changes in channels, etc.

In mirror mode, you don't have any control at the local console, only an exact mirror of what the target desk is doing, including the programmer's command line.

    Hope that helps!

  • I think for someone used to the Obsession/Expression RVI and the EOS/ION/RVI in client mode (in the same user as the console), is the client screens do not respond to the main console's page commands.  They also don't follow along with format changes, so, for example, you can't really call for a spreadsheet view -- you have to do that yourself.  Both mirror and client will show the command line and highlight channels as they become selected.

That said, with EOS' ability to display on high resolution wide screen monitors, combined with Flex-patched, I find most of my channels fit on one page.  I can set the zoom, column width, and flex mode to my liking, which can be different from the views in the main console.  The screen will also auto-page as expected with +, thru, @, etc.  I personally don't mind reaching for the keyboard to do an occasional page or format change, and actually appreciate that independence.

I also like the ability to switch to a color picker tab or a tab with, say, just movers in table view, as well as pressing the various display-info hold-to-toggle keys (Data, Time, Label) on my own.

On the other hand, I'm comfortable with the console, and having some autonomy over my screens makes me faster.  I suspect many would rather just see exactly what the programmer is doing without having to think about the mechanics of the console.

  • This depends on your designer.  If they want to just watch what's going on, mirror mode is best.  If they want to motor around on their own, and maybe even do a little editing (I'm just saying), you can set them up as their own user.  If you set them up as the same user as you, if they page or change operating modes, so will you.  If you post something on your command line, they will see it.  Likewise, if they enter something on the command line, it will impact your command line as well.

You can write macros to take you in and out of mirror mode.  There is information in the 1.9 supplement about this.

In the next release, we are putting in keyboard shortcuts from an alpha numeric keyboard to mirror identified users, and abort mirror mode.

    Hope that helps.
