Effects restarting on Eos

Hello,

I use Absolute effects for rig checks, to run through all the parameters of each type of moving light, scroller etc. When the last step of each effect has been carried out, the effect then seems to restart itself, even though I always specify "Number of Cycles 1". After about 2 seconds of the effect trying to restart, it then stops itself and the lights revert back to where they've been told to be in the last step of the effect.

This has always been the case, it's not a new issue for me. I just wondered if this bothered anyone else out there? Or is there something I'm consistently doing wrong that could sort this out? It's not a massive issue, although the show I'm currently working on has Pirouettes and frankly, hearing them strain to go from Home, then CS, then Home again within the space of 5 seconds is painful! Should I be using a different sort of effect?

Further to the above, is there really still no way to put an effect onto a part? Or am I massively behind the times here?

Many thanks,

Jane

  • Hey Ms. Dutton.  Nice to hear from you.   What is your exit  behavior and time on this effect?

No, you aren't missing anything - you can't put a delay on the start of an effect right now.  Because of the way we handle effects and parts, our solution for this is to add a delay column to the effect status display.  So, the delay will be applied there.  This will be in the next software release.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi Anne,

Exit behaviour was Fade by Size, exit time is Cue/Sub. I've just changed the behaviour to Stop and Fade, it still restarts the effect. I then changed it to Stop and Hold - which I would expect to hold the last action of the effect. However, it doesn't - it carries out the last action and then carries out the first action again and holds that. This seems a bit bonkers to me??

I think it's a shame about not being able to start an effect on a part. With a delay that applies to the actual effect, I guess you'd have to keep copying your effect and changing the delay time if you wanted to use the same one throughout a show, but starting at different points in a sequence etc. But hey, I'll get over it I'm sure!

    Thanks,

    Jane

  • Yep, that is a problem with step based effects as well.  On the list to address.

You won't need to copy your effect, as the delay will work as a cue level override.    The application of the delay -  like the current adjustment of size, rate, H/V hold and axis - is not stored at the effect level.    This will actually be a bit less work for you than putting in a part.... As you won't have to split a parameter movement and effect into separate parts if that is what you want (this would be a bit syntax heavy).

We will run a single cycle absolute or step effect through its paces to see if we catch any other odd behavior, but this one is already on the list.

    Thanks much!
