First Gen Ion Console

I had a quick question.  Are the Mark 2 Response DMX Gateways compatible with the original Ion's running WinXP embedded?  I'd have to use the onboard GCE to program it as we're a mac campus and I dont have a PC to run the software. Assuming it would work, but wanted to make sure before we invest in one.

  • You can absolutely use the Mk2 DMX gateways with an Ion classic running 2.x software. The console outputs sACN, the gateway reads sACN, no reason for any application at all.

To configure remotely you would need the ETC Concert software. GCE doesn't recognize the Mk2 gateways as GCE was discontinued years before those gateways were released.

Good news: Concert is available for Mac here.

And: You can configure the Mk2 gateways locally through their display and the buttons.

  • quick question, does the response 4-port gateway come with a power supply or do I need to request one with it?

  • It does not ship with the power supply - most people connect gateways to a switch that provides POE. You will need to order the power supply if you don't have a POE switch.

  • Our switches are standard.  Is there a POE injector that's recommended? Would a Ubiquiti Networks UniFi PoE++ Adapter work?

  • Any 802.3af 48v POE injector would work - the power requirements for the gateway are pretty low and don't need POE+ or POE++. Just make sure it's not a "passive" POE injector that just puts 24v on the wires.

  • I have a couple POE++ in stock for some reason so that's good.  Thanks for the quick answers.  I appreciate it.
