New user observations

Hi all, and Anne,

I have recently used the Eos in a two week, constantly changing run.  I come from a very Strand-centric background and had a very comfortable and fun experience. 

There are two of my favorite things from the 500's that seem to be missing here: An indication in the channel grid as to which channels are patched and which are not, and the ability to reload individual items (i.e. a single cue) from a show file.

Are these features coming anytime soon?

Also, while perusing the threads today, I am finding LOADS of interesting and useful info, but quite a bit of that is buried in unrelated topics.  I predict that when begin looking for specific topics, they will be hard to find from the thread subjects.

  • Hey Brent.... welcome to the Eos forum - looking forward to your input.

    In 1.3, we will have an indication (and inability to set values for) deleted channels.  At the moment, we do not differentiate between an unpatched channel and a deleted channel.    We are looking for a different indicator for an unpatched channel, but have not decided what it should be.   Additionally, the ability to import just a single item is forthcoming shortly.

    I'm not sure how to solve the problem of embedded topics.  This is a pretty "flow of consciousness" sort of thing... like most forums.   We can urge our members to start a new post on new topics.....  but most of us (me included) are seldom that disciplined.  It's more like "hey, while I have you on the phone..... "

    at any rate, thanks for your input!   I'm curious.... where did you use the desk?

    Plus, there is the "Patched Channels" flexi mode in soon-to-be-released 1.2.

    If you really really need a cue from another showfile, you could copy your current cuelist to another number, import the cues from the other show, copy them to yet another cue list, then re-copy the original cue list back to 1:

    [Cue][1][/][Copy To][2][/][Enter]

    Your main cuelist is not duplicated as list 2 

    Browser | File | Import   Select "Cues" button

    The foreign cuelist is now cuelist 1 

    [Cue][1][/][Copy To][3][/][Enter]

    The foreign cuelist is now cuelist 3

    [Cue][2][/][Copy To][1][/][Enter]

    The main cuelist is now back in list 1, and you can use cues from 3.

    I hope this helps as a "get out of jail" until the proper selective import is available!

    As for the casual structure of the threads, I can deal.  I'm just used to Blue-Room.org, where they are pretty srict discilplinarians.

    Anne, I'm in Nashville.  I used George Doukas' demo board for two weeks, and like I said, had a great time.  I have a couple other items to talk about, but really don't have much time this week.  I'll pop in whenever I can.

    Idel- tell me more about Flexi showing patched and unpatched channels.  The 'loading a single cue' work-around was brilliant.  thanks.

    Yes, I heard that you guys had a pretty good experience with the desk.   Very glad to hear that!  An old friend of mine - Steve Loftin - used to be the TD at TPAC.  We did summer stock together back in the day....  

    In a silly specification oversight, we had forgotten to ask the developers for a flexichannel state that shows only patched channels.  (These things sometimes happen!)    So, right now, when you invoke flexichannel you have the following choices:

    All Channels (the default)
    Show Channels (only those channels that have some sort of show data stored for them)
    Active Channels (channels with intensity above zero, or channels that have just had a move to zero)
    Moved Channels (any channel that has data in blue or green, indicating a move just happened)
    Selected Channels (only those channels that are selected).... and selected channels are always included in any of the above flexi states.

    So 1.2 adds Patched Channels.  

    Whenever you have the time to bring up the other thoughts you had.... you know where to find us!

    HI Anne,

    Well I'm back. 

    Nice work on the new release.  I can't wait to get a desk to use it on.

    Here's my thoughts on the channel screen:  On the 500's, I was very comfortable with two screens making 400 channels.  I really dig the zoom feature on the Eos.  It is so much easier than changing your display resolution to see more/less channels.  I will find a setting on the Eos that will give me something in that 400 channel neighborhood to be my standard Live screen look.  When I program my own shows, I like to start with those 400 channels existing, but indicating an unpatched status.  Then I am able to lay out my patch structure visually, with different systems in different areas of the screens.  That way, until I have channel numbers memorized I only have to remember, say, that the cycs are in the bottom left, the ground row next to that, the fronts on top, washes in the middle, and so on.  When working this way, I avoid deleting channels, as that shifts the grid around, mucking up my visual organization.  Will (does) the flexichannel patched mode show all channels with an indication between patched and un, or is it only the channels that are patched with no fixed layout?

    Here's an issue I had that ended up becoming two subjects- I had my groups up on the touch screen. Occasionally, I would hit the wrong group.  Subject one:  When you press a Group button, it highlights.  My impulse when pressing the wrong one is to press it again to toggle it off, instead, it adds it to the command line again.  Is there a reason for that?  Could they toggle? Could they not be added to the command line repetitatively?  Subject two:  Each time a Group is mistakenly added to the command line, it takes several deletes to remove it.  Is there a way to clear the entire command line?

    Also, Snapshots didn't seem to work like I expected, but I wasn't able to spend much time figuring it out.  What is new with them now?
