loading a submaster

I updated our Ion (with 2x20 wing) to 1.9 today and was doing some general presets before I leave for the summer.  I set up 7 submasters and assigned them to faders, no problem.  8th sub (actually Sub 10; I left 8 and 9 blank) programmed fine, but then I couldn't load it to a fader.

When I [Sub] [10] [Enter] in Live and press both fader buttons, the fader display reads 100% but ALL the channels that have dimmers (1-144) are selected, the instruments do not flash and the channel levels remain at zero.  The fader has not picked up the submaster's channels and doesn't control the instruments.  I did clear the fader several times as well as those around it (#8 & 9) and cannot clear them - they're still 1 to 1.

"Sub 10" also converts itself to "Group Sub 10" on the command line

Is this a hardware or software problem, and what is it? Sorry I'm so lame.

  • Hmmm, this sounds a bit like the bottom button isn't working. The top button will indeed give you [Group][Sub] for that submaster.

In the Settings menu after you have exited Ion, you should be able to test the fader wing hardware directly in the Maintenance menu.

  • Thanks for the quick reply.  I had to go be an orchestra teacher but I'll check that avenue on Monday.

I had one other thought; the house lights (which I was trying unsuccessfully to assign) are in our 2nd rack of Sensors.  Could that be relevant?

  • Okay.  I figured it out.  Dumb___ (you pick) operator error.  I'll explain in case anyone else is as careless as me in the future.

If you don't look up and notice that you're in Blind/Sub instead of Live when you perform the keystrokes to program a submaster, you program the channels as submasters.  In this case, I mistakenly programmed Channels #135-143 as Submasters #135-143 at full, not as Sub 10.  Then I wasn't accessing them correctly when I treated them as channels later.  The clue was that the intensity numbers for those channels were yellow, as if input through a submaster.  I thought that meant Sub 10 ("But I didn't!") when it was really Subs 135-143.

    Thanks again.
