Strand to Eos conversion

I am in the process of transferring all of our live shows from the Strand 500 format over to the Eos to prepare them for possible future productions.

I have successfully exported the files from the Strand and using ShowPort converted them into ASCII. I have also imported the show files into the Eos.

My query is related to the use of groups vs palettes in an imported show.

All the Strand groups appears to have been copied to Eos groups, rather than being translated to Colour/Beam/Focus Palettes, or even Presets as I would have expected.

Does the Eos somehow store the actual data in these groups, or are they in effect useless. I have looked through a number of cues in which the movers actually reference a group in their colour for instance. How does this work?

Thanks

  • Strand 500 Groups should import as both Groups and Presets in Eos - can you send me your ASCII file or the SSF file?

  • Just a bit  more.  When the group bucket comes in via ASCII - we split that into two elements.  A group of the same number is created, with the channels that were in the Strand group.  A separate preset, of the same number, is created, containing the actual data.    We don't filter the data to decide if it should result in an intensity, focus, color or beam palette.  All just lands in a preset.  Its very easy to move those presets (and all of the related show data) to various palettes using the Move to command if you wish.  This can easily be done in ranges.   So, if you've organized your Strand groups in such a way that all of the color data (for example) was in the same sequential set of groups, with one command you can move all of that data into a CP.

    Hope that helps.
