Arkaos MediaMaster Express, Ion, and Artnet

Hello!

Has anyone on this board had any success in connecting Arkaos MediaMaster Express to their Ion using Artnet?  Or how about VJ DMX?

If you have done it successfully, and can tell me how, It would make me a very happy technician.

I have a USB Pro, and it works a treat, but it would be ever so much nicer to get everything running using Network cables.

Thanks!

  • Ok then. . .  Apparently nobody at ETC or Arkaos can provide me with any help, and I have had no luck on either of the fourms.

Artistic Licence provided me with a .pdf that made my head ache, but got me no closer to getting the connection to work (oddly it DID work when I was running AL's DMXWorkshop software)

Can anyone tell me just what the Ion is sending to Art-Net?

  • Sorry, I only just picked up on your post having been in a big tent in a field for the last 5 days... yes, I can confirm that Arkaos MediaMaster will most certainly run via ArtNet from Eos/Ion - I have done this several times.

Did you eventually get it working?

    Andi.

  • Andi,

I haven't had time to work with the system over the past couple of weeks.  We have been doing show after show, so I just went with the USB Pros that I could get to work.

When you used Art-Net with your Ion what settings did you have to change?  Did you have to set custom IP addresses?  If you could let me know how you accomplished it, that would be fantastic.

    Thanks!

  • I don't have a record of the settings because we originally configured it over a year ago. However, this same system (presumably still configured the same way) has just been in action on a show in London. I'll drop the guys a line, see what I can  find out.

  • ArtNet is one of the more annoying protocols unfortunately...
    - The following assumes that you have left the Ion networking (IP address etc) at the defaults.

First of all, you must not use a router, as ArtNet is not routable.
Very basic ethernet switches/hubs are preferred - more configurable switches may need broadcast data to be enabled.

Ion broadcasts ArtNet DMX levels only to the limited broadcast address - "10.101.255.255"

Therefore your Arkaos computer must have an IP address of 10.101.x.x, Subnet 255.255.0.0

    To enable ArtNet in Ion:

    • Browser > Exit Ion (to the shell)
    • Click Settings > Network
    • Scroll down to Protocols and enable ArtNet.
      • Ensure 'Default' for ArtNet is not ticked, as you want the minimum amount of ArtNet traffic
    • Note the ArtNet "subnet" value (default zero), and ensure that the ArtNet Subnet in Arkaos is the same
    • Start Primary

To patch your Arkaos layers to ArtNet
    - Assuming 8 layers onto desk channels 1 thru 8, starting ArtNet address in Arkaos is Universe 0, DMX 1
    - Note that ArtNet Universe 0 is Ion Universe 1.

    • Open the Patch
    • Select the desk channels - one for each Arkaos layer
    • Set the channels to be the relevant Arkaos layer personality templates
    • Now patch them to ArtNet
    • 1 [Thru] 8 [@] 1
    • Click "Interface"
    • Click "ArtNet"
      • Command line now reads:
      • Chan 1 Thru 8 @ Address 1 Interface ArtNet
    • [Enter]

Ion should now be outputting 8 layers to Arkaos on ArtNet Universe 0, starting at DMX 1, and you should have control.
