This seems like a rather long way of doing it, having to record presets, is there no other simpler way?

You could consider recording your effect as a separate linked cuelist, using Mark or Automark to deal with the scroll changes for you. This way you just need to record cues with the looks you need and let the console do the thinking for you?

You may have to massage your Mark times a little depending on how fast your chase is, but it should do the trick.

You could also use color palettes in your absolute effects - as most shows have CPs written even for their scrollers.

You should be able to set a frame number in the absolute level column, but can't at this time.  This is on the list.
