Link submasters to groups instead of channels (template showfile)

I'm pretty sure this is a simple question to most of you, but I just can't figure out how to do it and probably I'm using the wrong words to search for an answer, but:

I'm currently building a template showfile with magic sheets for busking in EOS. I want to use this showfile for different shows with different patches. So I want it to work no matter what patch I'm using.

In one of the magic sheets I have multiple faders that contain submasters which only control group intensities.

Of course I can enter:

Group 1 @ Full
Group 1 Intensity Record Only Sub 1

But like I said, I'm trying to build a template that I can also use for different shows with a different patch, so I will need to change the channels that are stored in my groups. When I do that, obviously my submasters won't work anymore because (as far as I know) they contain channel values and are not just linked to group numbers.

Is there a way to create a submaster that just links to a group number and still works when I change the channels that are stored in that group?

Or is there another way to achieve what I'm trying to do?

(I'm trying to do the same with Intensity and focus effects by the way)

Also, if that's relevant: I'm using EOS 2.9 because I'm working with an old ETC Element 1.

  • You could try the opposite approach and use your submasters as groups instead. [Group][Sub][x] works to use the channels in a submaster. This way you'd only have to change the content of your subs when building a new show file from template.

I'm not sure if Element allows you to use macro's, but you can also use macro's to fill your submasters from groups. The macro should contain exactly the syntax you have in your post. One macro could trigger many other macro's, so with the push of just one button you should be able to fill all your subs.
