Submaster linear interpolation and owning mechanics

I basically have two questions.

If I make a submaster that contains a channel in a preset, then when I move the fader up, the channel does a linear interpolation between its previous manual value and the preset value. But when I move the submaster back down to 0, the channel does not return to its previous manual value, but it goes to home.

So with all the different configuration settings for a submaster, surely I can make a submaster always linearly interpolate between the background value and the submaster value, for 0%, 50% and 100%? Which should recall the manual values when the submaster is down to 0% again, instead of home.

Also, I don't think I completely understand the whole background value/channel owning mechanics in Element. There are many different owners such as [manual], [cue], [effect], [submaster]. Are [manual] and [cue] 'on the same level', meaning that they always override each other? [Manual] overrides [cue] and Sneak makes [cue] override [manual]. Then [effect] is always stacked on top of [manual], because when the effect stops, the manual values appear again. And why does a manual effect sometimes disappear and sometimes not when I activate another effect using a submaster (and the effects work on the same parameters, because otherwise I understand). And where does [submaster] lie in this hierarchy?

I think the owning mechanics are something else than the priority or background priority in the submaster configuration settings, right?
