Using Pixel Map on wash lights

Hello,

I'm about program a show and had an idea I'm not sure about, looking for some feedback.

Instead of programming effects (which i'm still pretty new at) is there a reason not to create a pixel map of my patched LED wash fixtures and playback media to create some effects during a few fight scenes?  I'm looking for any and all feedback, "this is a terrible idea...and here is why" or things to look out for.

    I've never done that personally but i was told in a official ETC training session, that using pixel maps for organic intensity/color effects works just fine and gets you to a desired look pretty quickly. 

    obviously you loose some features of the effect editor like easily reversing the effect, cascading entry, grouping, trail..... you get the idea. 

    Depending on the performance it should work just fine for you.
