Magic trick with Media Archive for Pixel Mapping?

We got server, backup and client in the system. We work on client and try to figure out how to use media archive and pixel map togheter.

We understand that we need to put all media files on our server. We can see our pixel map on the server and if we upload a media file, we see it happen, both on stage and in the console. I'm going to think about whether we could use a common media archive on our fileserver where all files are read from instead of local file. Bad or great idea?

When we then work on our client, we see our pixelmap, but we don't see the media file rolling on the client but on the stage. We also can't see the preview of the file in the media archive on the client. Since we know it's BANK 004 and files 1 and 2, I can still select them and they appear on the stage but not on the client. Also tried to have same user.

What is the magic trick to works with Pixel Map and Media Archive in a server/backup-system with clients? How should we think?

  • Now I've looked into this a bit and if I share "MediaArchive" from my server and set it up on my client as a network drive, I can upload files directly to the server from my client.

Should I then connect my MediaArchive in my client so that it points to the server location? What happens if the server crashes, will I lose all the media or how does it sync everything between server and backup?

In my case, putting all the media on an external file server where both server, backup and client read from should be better. But I get some warnings. I have a NAS in the system that is always on with RAID-disks.

How can I see this live in my preview on my client is the next question?
