Doug Fleenor preset box

Greetings. Just joined, first post. Let's say we've got a Gadget II interface here that connects to a Doug Fleenor Preset 10 box. (TV studio, so all lights are static, a combination of DMX units and PAR lights) The laptop that used to run the EOS software crashed, and another laptop has replaced it.

This is my first foray into the world of EOS and lighting control. My understanding is that the Fleenor box records the settings that are sent from the EOS program, and can record different presets depending on your needs. My question is: Can I bypass the Fleenor box and plug the Gadget II directly into the first DMX in the daisy-chain, and modify the lights that way? Or do I just leave the Fleenor in the circuit and just make/record my changes that way?

Thanks.

  • Hi.

This Preset 10 box looks just like a DMX-Recorder. You feed it an input, record that to a scene/slot/preset and then the recorder will send the DMX values directly to the lights.

I scanned the manual really quick but I'm not finding any bypass features that might enable you to control the lights directly from the console. In this case, you need to plug the DMX output of your gadget directly into the first device on your dmx chain, as you proposed.

Going from EOS directly to your lights has some key advantages since you're now able to control all lights in real time, record basically infinite Cues, create effects etc...

    Hope this helps.
