Fixtures with Parts will not use By Type pallets

In my showfile Iam using the same spot type as show light and as followMe Followspots in the FOH.

I have created all my colours as By Type.

The followspots have a part 2 for the FollowMe fixture, for keeping it all together. But when creating a part2 on a fixture It will not use the By Type pallets anymore, even when part 2 has no color parameters. I have to create By Type again for the fixtures with a part.

Is this expected behaviour?

  • Yes that is expected behavior. It's the combination of fixture type, parts and their order which defines a by-type type.

In Blind you can select your color palettes, copy one of the regular channels to one of the channels with parts and make that second channel by-type as well. It's an extra step but you can do it for all your by-type pallets in one one go.

  • I can imagine this is expected behavior for parts that contain different fixtures. It needs to be changed for channels with multiple parts of the same fixtures type. In this case the fixture needs to behave as it it were just one fixture of the same type that happened to be patched to multiple outputs.

Usecase: you have an existing show with 10 top washes, on tour you have to patch 11. You do this by putting the centre two fixtures  on one channel. These centre ones  now do not behave. They are not using the by type data.
