Eos console show setup

An excellent question without a definitive answer

While my setup is good for me it will not be good for you. I use an Apex FP with 2 external monitors and a 1x20 motorised fader wing. Depending on the show I am doing I will use faders (mainly for busking) but for theatre shows (plays/musicals) I hardly ever use fadders with the exception of hazer controls and the occasional flash button. Being flexible enough and knowing how to use the faders and in what configuration is the key here. As for displays I use a couple of configurations that are recalled by snapshots. One is a programming snapshot that has lots of tools on magic sheets and the PSD and then when running the show a PSD and Live table is what I want to see. 

Everyone is different so watch/talk to others and then work out what works for you. Remember that your workflow should be flexible and as you learn more you will find it changes and what you want on your screens will change along with that.

so many possibilities (too many sometimes).

I have 2 venues (concert hall and black box theatre)

Concert Hall: 2 external touchscreens, 80 submasters with groups and individual channels for easy grabbing, and 20 empty subs for building each show (I mostly run live busking for the majority of our events).  when needed, I delete other subs and re-record them for show purposes.  the last 20 subs at the top of the console (I love the 1x20 fader wing; hint hint ETC) are for house lights, house minimum, work lights, and safety lights.

Black box studio: 2 screens (only 1 is touch), 60 submasters as above, and 20 for house and work light channels.

Yes, for Q'd plays it's PSD on 1 and channels on the other.

but it all depends on how many Qs you want to see, or how many channels you have, vs screen size, or what you might want to grab often.  I don't have movers, so I don't have those controls available.  I do have LEDs so most of the snap shots have either my Colour Palettes or at least the colour picker showing.

If during the run of the play, something goes off script, what do you need to grab?  a Mover (rather than typing its number)?  a macro to shut down power to a section of the rig, or a reset lamp command?

Beam Palettes?  gobos? colours, presets?

Then you could have smaller palette windows sharing with PSD and Channels, or a Palette of snapshots, leading you back to your programming layout, to grab and re-program during the show.

Is it worth building a magic sheet of the house rig (draw the plot on the screen), or do you have time each show to build a magic sheet for that specific rig (in a plot version, or a designer's magic sheet)?

Inhibit sub(s) for FOH lights for when the main drape comes down, or movers to turn them off while you program your way out of something?

it all depends on what you want to see, or be able to grab quickly.  so as Geoff said, it's all very personal.  and my layout is different from my other operators.

it takes a while a few attempts to figure out your preferred layout.  "it all depends"

Hey Andrew if it would help I can definitely send you a show file of what I got. I have a good setup already for my busking show file and it’s kinda what you described. For psd I usually like to have the full screen with all my cues so I know what’s coming up. 

i never thought about what if an actor goes off script or something. I only have 3 solaframe theaters in my rig so I honestly have been pulling them up by channel number. I do run pallets for almost everything so it may be a good idea to do a magic sheet of pallets and primary channels.
