color gel not transfering to new fixtures

Hey Guys,
I got a question:

When I got my show programmed at the first venue I used a fixture and set its color to 3/201 with the color Picker. When I store the que it shows me L 201 and gives me the correct color.

Now I come to a differnet venue with a different Fixture. I repatch the fixture. Now in my cue list the L 201 info is still stored, but the Data is completly wrong. If I set 201 with the new fuxture manually. It does not fit the values stored in the cue. It's a bit odd. How are you guys doing it? Am I missing something?

In the first picutre you see I have set up the Gel for ch1 manually and for ch2 is the merged portion. At first glance it looks the same. But looking at the actual data (image 2) you see the values are very different from another.

  • Hi. I'm really interested in steps to reproduce this. Can you share some more details about how you got to this state?

Is it possible that the original fixtures had no Lime or maybe had an Indigo/Deep Blue emitter? It would make sense that if there's no data stored for lime emitters in the original file, it can't be merged in.

Are you actually merging via the menu or changing fixture types/Addresses in your original file? For me, it's not really apparent in the original post.

  • You can actually reproduce this without merging.

    1. Patch two fixtures: let's say ETC color Spot jr on Chan 3, and ETC Lustre+ on Chan 5

    2. Set both colors to 3/201.

    3. Go back into the Patch and change the type of chan 3 to Lustre+

    4. Go back to your Q and inspect the color data of your cues by hitting Data (twice)

You will see instead of setting the right color values for that light (same values for 3 & 5) it will Block those color values that were not present (amber eg), and not modify those values that were present. The data differs, but it is still displayed as L301

  • This is what I get:

Could it be that you forgot the [GoToCue] [Enter]?

Blind changes (and Patch is in Blind) by design mostly don't affect Live values. To see the transformation of the values you will need to look at values in a record target. If that record target is a cue you will either have to look at it in Blind to immerdiately see the changes or to use [GoToCue] [Enter] to pull the corrected values into Live.
