Selection behaviour - "add to" vs "replace"

When I select a cue with a mouse click, it adds the cue to the current selection, rather than replacing it. (i.e. I have cue 1 selected, i click on cue 6, now I have cue 1 + cue 6 selected.)

I want to be able to select a cue without including the previous cue (i.e.; I have cue 1 selected, I click on cue 6, and now I only have cue 6 selected)

The same applies to patch window channels, and a bunch of other screens.

I know I can do this by typing cue 6 manually, but is there any way I can do it by using a key combination as I click, for example, when I am working in a more mouse-focused workflow?

I work on a laptop pretty often and it'd be lovely to be able to press alt, or shift, or something, and then click on a cue to be able to edit its notes, block status, etc etc, without accidentally also grabbing cue 1 (or god forbid if the cues are far apart and I need to scroll way up to find it and deselect it)
