setting up a client on my Ion

So I'm an idiot and need a little help....

Is there a simple tutorial that will walk me through networking my pc laptop (with freshly installed client software) to my Ion. I am planning on connecting the two directly with cat5 (no switch in between). The other thing is that when my vendor installed my Ion, he turned off all outputs except DMX (to prevent the network from bogging down with unnecessary traffic?), so I'd need to know which configurations to set there. And then I need a little help with setting I.P. addresses.

Thanks in advance.

  • Err, right. Not massively familiar with the Ion as I run an EOS, but it should be similar. I don't think the Ion has a built-in Ethernet switch, so you'd have to use a crossover cable to link them.

I use 10.101.1.101 with a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0 which seems to work - I think there is a kind of ETC "Standard" somewhere that they use. If the outputs over ethernet are switched off, I don't think that means that communication over ethernet is - just that devices expecting to recieve Net3/Artnet/etc won't.

Don't be surprised if your "client" doesn't automatically connect to the console - go to the network menu, and configuration and disconnect from the 'Master' you're connected to (actually the local machine). Then you can go back in and reconnect to the correct master.

    Hope that helps!
