Since Rosco Keystroke is now history, we are faced with controlling Watchout run projectors
with either Artnet or MIDI (or maybe a dimmer controlled relay).
Am I right is saying that EOS only transmits MIDI show control (System messages) and not note or controller information, and we can't edit the messages sent?
If we use Artnet I have some questions.
1. Does there have to be an actual Artnet node on the system before the protocol launches? I ask because it failed to launch on my offline, allthough Net2 did launch.
2. Do I have to allocate an entire universe to Artnet? I want to keep traffic to a minimum. If we're only using 10 addresses, will the other 502 levels be transmitted as well? What does the ArtNet subnet value have to do with EOS address ranges? For instance, if the subnet is 0, will setting EOS address 17/1 to ArtNet interface fail to transmit?
3. I assume the Watchout system will have to adopt the EOS-CEM ip address scheme (we are using the ETC recommended layout-10.101.x.x). We have layer 3 switches which would hopefully direct Watchout traffic away from our dimmer system. Is there an ETC designated range for miscellaneous devices?
4. Since were using Net3 nodes in Net2 mode, and I believe our CEM's use Net2 as well, will disabling the ACN protocol increase bandwith, to compensate for ArtNet broadcasts being put on the network?
Of course we could buy a DMX to ArtNet box for maybe even less than Rosco Keystroke went for, but I would like to try the buy-nothing method first. Any suggestions?
