Mirror Mode

During tech I was running an Eos as the main, and an Ion as backup with 3 RVIs for the designers.

Once we got into previews we obtained another Ion and so I am running 1 Ion as Main, 1 Ion as Backup, and during notes in the afternoon the Eos as a client.  During notes I we have 2 RVIs for the designers.

I can get the RVIs to mirror the Ion just fine, but I cannot get them to Mirror the Eos properly now that we are doing notes.  I cannot page like I am supposed to.  Does anyone have a thought theory about why the mirroring isn't working now?

All gear is running 1.9.1 Build 30.

Thanks for your time.

Jay

  • My guess, Jay, is that you can only mirror the main, which is now an Ion.  That's a lot of consoles!

I don't have a clue.  This is just the thought that crossed my mind.

  • All 'multiconsole' items must connect to the Primary/Main console.

Your Eos is now running as a Client, so it's not a Primary anymore, and neither Mirrors nor Clients can connect to another Client.

  • All Consoles are connected to the Master Ion, but when programming I want designers to see the Eos because it is the console that the programmer is on.  The Eos is User 2 Client Synced with the Ion backstage.  For a few days we were mirroring fine to the Eos, but then I could no longer page the designers RVI for some reason.  So now we just run the RVI as a client on User 2 and to page around I just type channel @ ...

It just seems weird that I could mirror for a day or 2 then I couldn't.

    Thanks

  • Hi Richard,

Not to be that guy, but...

Ever since Mirror Mode has been around, I've been able to mirror whomever I wanted. Occasionally some of the RVI's don't appear as a mirror option, but i"ve always been able to get the desks. The most common setup I work with is an RPU as Primary master, Eos Tracking Backup, and either an Ion or another EOS as a client. I often bounce between the EOS backup (moving light programmer) and the Ion Client (Conventional Programmer).

    Did I misunderstand your comment?

Jay, when you say you have paging issues, what do you mean? Are you able to get into mirror mode, but then you can't page at all?

The setup I'm using currently actually has the RVI as the same User ID as the EOS. This allows the channel screen to follow the selection of the EOS and I can see the programmers command line, but I can have my own screen format options and can page separately from the main console. Where it gets tricky is if I want to go off and do things by myself. Since we are the same user, we share a command line, so if I go blind, I'll take the Eos with me.

When in Mirror Mode, I get the exact same 2 external screens that the console that I'm mirroring has. If I press page up or down, it changes the page on the mirrored console.

    That helpful at all?

  • Yes, this was the exact situation a few days ago, then one day we setup the tech table for notes and the designer could mirror the Eos, but was frozen on page.  When he tried to page using the remote paging button he would page my screen and not his.  When I would page he would still be on the original channel list.  So I would need to turn OFF mirroring mode in order for him to see what I was doing.  As he doesn't ever want to mess with the RVI, it is most convenient for him to mirror me. But seeing that it now doesn't follow what I am doing on the playback or live screen, I use the non mirror mode.

We are doing fine and it is a working system, it just seems weird when it quit mirroring one day and if anyone had a theory of why it quit working.  Thanks for you answer, Ben.  I am still befuddled on the answer though, especially since nothing that I can think of has changed.
