Apollo EZ Iris???

So... I'm having trouble gaining control over my Apollo EZ Iris'.  It's not in the manufacturer lists so we've tried using the generic Iris with no luck.  Double checked addresses, to no avail.  We are daisy chaining them off of an iCue which I think must be the problem, I will try separating them to see if that works, but has anyone had this issue?  We also purchased a new Opto which came in today and will put it in line.  We are updated to 1.9.1 and still no option for the fixture.  Stumped beyond that.

  • I cannot find a Generic Iris listed in the fixture release notes.

According the Apollo website, the EZ Iris DMX is a fixture with 1 channel of DMX 0:closed, 255:open Try using the City Theatrical DMX Iris.

Verify the patch is correct and you are mapped to the correct DMX universe.

  • Hey gang,

OK. Silly answer to your question, but I spent too much time last year on a show with this same problem.  Are the EZ Iris’ new to you (for me they were a rental for a show so I had never used them)?  If so, check the addresses on the units again.  I made the mistake of addressing them “reading” dials in the wrong direction.  I think (if I remember correctly) that I assumed the address dials read from top to bottom of the fixture instead of from left to right (if you are holding the fixture horizontally) with the dials facing you on the right side of the fixture.

I may have this backwards, so try it both ways.  The show file used the generic DMX iris profile and once I got them addressed correctly, they worked great.

  • Thanks all,

Switched to City Theatrical and swapped the address to read the other direction and problem solved.  Had also been having trouble with tilt on one of my iCues and found that our student programmer had addressed it as an 8-bit but it was programmed as 16-bit, so I think the DMX was having a hard time figuring out where the end of the string was.  All is solved and I can eat my lunch now.  Thanks.
