converting files from the obsession to the ion

Howdy JRB,

Yes you can convert your Obsession 1 files to Ion through the use of USITT ASCII Show File Translation, you will however need to go through Obsession 2 along the way.

To convert from Obsession 1 to Obsession 2, please follow the instructions found here: http://community.etcconnect.com/wikis/products/knowledgebase-how-to-convert-a-showfile-from-obsession-to-obsession-ii.aspx

After you have the file in Obsession 2 format, you can use Obsession 2 Offline (found here: http://www.etcconnect.com/product.software.signin.aspx?docID=22496&ID=20187) to export the show file to USITT ASCII format.

From the ASCII format, you can use the import feature on Ion to read that file into memory and save it as an Ion showfile.

If you do not have an Obsession 2 processor available to you, contact the nearest ETC Technical Support and we can help with the file conversion.

Which is another way of saying you will need an Obsession II console handy for the transfer.

If none available, possibly call tech support to ascertain if they can facilitate the transfer if you can e-mail the Obsession 600 console file ?.

Steve is exactly right.   The Obsession II processor hosts the conversion program.  We can facilitate the conversion at ETC when we have a spare minute or two -- it really is a simple process, but understandably difficult without a processor!

Is there a link or documentation to this process. I have some files that seem to be corrupt, that is they don't open on obsession II offline. Also obsession II offline does not allow to read just the cues off the show file but the processor does. I need to convert some show files to ascii from the processor. Any help would be appreciated?

Dennis, your best bet is to call ETC Tech Support. They can look at the file in detail and evaluate if it is possible to transfer it.
