Strange channel

I have an issue that I don’t know how to get rid of.  It involves a channel that’s part of some

channels that are assigned to the Smartswitch Relay panel that control A/C power outlets

on the catwalk lighting strips and in floor pockets on stage.

I have a macro that turns these particular channels on and a different one that turns them

off.  But through some other issues that happened Sunday (half my moving light lamps

turned off at some point between services and 10 minutes or so into the 2nd service they

came back on) I noticed on both the “Live” and “Blind” views (viewing the “Show Channels”

Flexi view), that one of the channels shows up with no “-“ or “0” or anything—just the channel

number and a 'P' (parked) in the tombstone.  When the channels are not parked it shows up

as well with an empty tombstone.  I’ve never programmed this channel number into any

cue (at least on purpose) and it’s in every cue of a couple hundred cues.  What puzzles me is

that it’s the only channel of the 48 channels in that macro that appears on the display(s). . .

whether I have the macro on or not.  I’m also fearing it could cause problems with whatever is

plugged into that circuit.  Hopefully there’s a simple explanation for this?!

  • Mike,

Is this channel patched to an address?  What is your flexi state that you see this in?  What are the contents of the macro -- does it park addresses or channels? (From your description, it sounds like channels).  Have you checked the blind spreadsheet to see if it ever has any value assigned from any cue list?

There are a lot of possibilities for something like this.  I don't think that it could affect the circuit, as park usually takes precedence over most other functions on the console.

If you'd like, you can post the show file or send it to me at hans<dot>hinrichsen<at>etcconnect<dot>com.

Regarding the moving lights lamping off -- do you know if they are on one phase, or multiple?  Are they all in the same SmartPack?  Is there a node or gateway connecting these devices, or is it a straight run of DMX?

Sorry for the list of questions, but there's a lot of variables in the equation.  There is very likely a simple explanation to both problems.

Let us know what you find.

    Hans

  • Is this channel patched to an address?     Yes.  The first 192 channels are patched 1-to-1.

What is your flexi state that you see this in?    See it in Show and Patched, but not in Active or Manual.

    Macro parks channels.

Blind Spreadsheet shows this channel but no data or value(s) in any of the cues.

I will email show file.  It's channel 233.

The lamping off of my Elektralite 575.4's happened a few months back not long after opening and I thought it was fixed

from turning Hibernate setting off on the fixtures, and changing a packet time setting on the Smartswitch to 10ms? (per this forum).  Seemed to fix it

for the last couple months until the other day.  I went into the Smartswitch on Monday and changed the setting to 11ms. just for fun.  Had them running

a couple of days this week and so far no issues with that.  BTW... two Smartswitch cabinets.  I believe everything in this room is running Net.

  • Mike,

I dug through the show file -- 233 was at a level of 0 in cue 3/6.1.  Once I removed that move instruction with [at] [enter], the channel was removed from show channel display.

A quick way to find this is to go to [About] and then click on {Usage}.  It will display anywhere that the channel is recorded, including submasters, cues, and cue dark moves.  This most likely is not affecting the lamp on/off state of your channels, as the switched power channel and control channel are completely unrelated.

Upon re-reading your original post, I noticed that you did include some of the information I asked for -- I'll be sure to read closer in the future!  :)

As far as the fixtures go -- while it's hard to say, there are a couple of things that might be indications   Was there any similarity between the half of the fixtures that cut out?  Also, what other DMX sources and devices are on the network? Do you have a Unison CMEi, Paradigm, or any DMX gateways in the system?

  • I did the same thing, removed it and it's a miracle!  Thanks!

Yes, we have Unison CMEi, Paradigm, 12 Elektralite my575.4's, 24 Elektralite Paintcans, and 2 ColorKinetic Color Blast TR's.
