ML Gobo Frames Responding Backwards

Hi

So, I am doing an annual production (yes, Christmas Carol). This is our second year and we're trying to get the MLs (VL3500 Spots and VL1000 TS) to respond exactly like they did last year. For the most part, everything is working out pretty well with one exception - Gobos in the 3500's. It seems like for some reason all of our gobos are programmed backwards from last year and I can't figure out why or how. When I say backwards, I mean that in last year's show file, we have Gobo Select 1 set to Frame 5 for example when we were supposed to be using Frame 1. And Frame 4 when we were supposed to be using Frame 2. The thing is, last year, it worked. We have Presets with a 3500's Gobo Select 1 value at 2.31 and we know for sure that last year, in the preset, the lights were in the opposite template on the wheel. How could that have been? It's like the Gobo Select channel was inverted somehow. Maybe it was inverted last year and fixed in a software update since then?

Is any of this making any sense? It's sort of confusing to write about... but many weird hard-to-solve problems are, I suppose.

  • I know that when I load gobos into our VL1000s for our Christmas Carol I have to pay attention to which way I spin the wheel that holds the gobos. If I load it by turning the wheel one way, the presets work as recorded in our last year's show. If I load it by turning the wheel the other way I have to rercecord the presets or pallettes so that I don't get what you are seeing.

  • Thanks, Tim. That was our first impulse. We figured maybe the electricians loaded the gobos backwards. After checking with the ME, though, he says they gobos have actually been in the lights since last year and haven't changed at all. So we're stumped. We ended up re-recording Beam Palettes and Presets anyway. Hopefully this was something fluky last year and won't happen again...
