Patching Fixtures

Hi Im patching some VIVID_R fixtures and have addressed the fixtures as normal when I start patching them on the ION- the units seem to come on and have no control over them- I have tried the grandmaster and the colour picker but cant seem to get control of them- what am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is it worth checking the DMX to them? I recently had a dimmer play up, because of bad wiring...

  • I might need a bit more information to help you -- when you say that the units "come on," you mean that you don't have control over intensity (they are always on), or that they come on immediately after being patched (i.e., the board is doing something to turn them on)?

How are your fixtures addressed?  Have you verified that this matches what is in the Ion's patch?  How does data get from your console to your fixtures?

  • Hans- thanks for your reply- Dmx addresses: 200, 208,216,224,232,240,248,256,264,272. I had them running perfectly before, now I cant get them to fade or do anything- as soon as I address certain ones (not all of them) they come straight on at full intensity so you have no control of them on the desk. Our data comes from the desk splits through a showtech dmx splitter box- one line to foh and one to the dimmer area on the fly floor and then goes into a four way dmx splitter box and out on the dmx through of that into the 8  Zero88 Betapack 3 dimmers. The dmx for the Selador units comes from the first output of the splitter box and is daisy chained through the fixtures and  terminated at the 10th fixture.

  • Hi Martin,

It looks like your DMX addressing is good. Silly question, but are they running on Universe 1 or 2 from the console? and are you patching accordingly? Are you using the standard fixture for the Vivid-R from the library? Perhaps you could attach your showfile here so we can have a look at your patch? Or E mail it to me - gparker(at)etcconnect(dot)com.

  • Have you made sure that none of the addresses or channels are parked, also make sure that the dimmers don't have a curve applied to them in the patch.

  • Right after thinking I was going mad whilst attepting to re-patch my fixtures- I decided to doubble check  their dmx address which I discovered were 1 number out on a few of the fixtures. Very strange. The only thing I could of thought of was that when I tapped the displays on the fixtures to note their adresses I knocked a few of them down a number- but never mind- their all working. Thanks for the help guys- I did check everything!
