MIDI TIME CODE

I've used MTC quite a few times with my EOS, we have 2 annual shows where we've been using it for a few years, and both are accomplished a little differently.

For one of the shows we do the audio playback through Pro-Tools, we set Pro-Tools to output MTC of our current time.

For the other show we use Q-Lab for audio playback, with cue lab we create an audio cue, which we auto-continue with a MTC start cue.  Then we just start the time code in 30 min increments with each audio track.

The pro-tools thing gives us the ability to start anywhere in the track and have to MTC line up, where as with Q-Lab we always need to start at the beginning of the track for MTC to run properly.

We use MIDI time code on all of our shows with sound originating from a PC (using Sonar).  It sounds similar to the way @briankacz does it. 

There are a couple of ways that I enter time code after getting into the show control screen: 

1)  The most easy is to play your audio source with the MTC transmitting.  Press LEARN, and start executing cues exactly when you want them to happen in time with the audio.  They will always fire at that time from now on. 

2) For more precise cues, sometimes I will stop the audio track, look at the exact time (down to the frame) and enter that into the show control. 

What you need to be very careful about is to turn the LEARN button off when you are done learning.  (It doesn't flash or anything - unlike when you record a macro)  I have made the mistake many times of learning a cue and then going on to make other adjustments to the cue (which get learned by mistake)  Thank goodness for the UNDO button!
