Slow Ion

hi all

 

Just have a query re the ion. I am running it for a conventional only dance show at the moment. I am finding it extremely slow in responding to commands and screen swaps.

I can count the length of time that it takes to swap into patch, respond to certain command, output a channel.

 

I have seen this before and am wondering is it software related or is the desk "too slow"? Don't get me wrong, I am not slagging off the ion but I do find it very slow with responding to commands. I have seen this on other ion's and have noticed similar.

The desk's are running only DMX and not network configurations. I have felt the eos is slow to respond to commands inputted too. On saying that, I do press buttons very fast!

Apart from Deep Purge, is there any way of speeding up the response time?

    i suppose I should have mentioned the software version!

    The version is 1.8

    I know there are later version(s) available but the venue do not wish me to upgrade due to the almighty pain they suffer with the etc riggers remote. There is an element in house which is in previews and they prefer all desks to run the same software etc,

     

    I have seen this over a couple of versions since ver 1.4

    Is there a particular reason they've not upgraded to the latest release? You say they "prefer all desks to run the same software etc," - it doesn't take long to upgrade, so it is probably worth upgrading and seeing if the problem is still extant.

     

    Is there any real reason they've not upgraded? The upgrades are made for good reason!

    It is probably a mixture of; if it ain't broke. don't  fix and lack of knowledge of there being a newer version of the OS.

    They have a version of software that works and they have no immediate intentions of upgrading. My shows opens tonight so I won't upgrade the desk. Have been down the road where software upgrades have created a new level of problems and the 2nd venue is in previews with an opening tomorrow night. I can be sure it won't happen this week!

     

    Not the end of my world but I do think the problem lies in the hardware of the desk. IMO, it is just too slow to respond. This is probably something that will be addressed in the next hardware revision etc. With a new console in development, it makes sense to re-visit the existing range of lighting desks.

    Ion version 1.9.1 addresses many of the speed and response problems found in 1.8. I would suggest that the software be upgraded during the next dark period.
