Eos Flexichannel: Show Channels and Patch madness

Hey all,

I really like the Show Channels display in Flexichannel but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I get that this display will show all channels that go to a level in a cue or submaster, but I have channels displayed in grey (not patched) and never go to a level in any sub or cue. (in fact we made a point of taking off any commands that lingered on channels that are unpatched.) Also there's one channel that is patched and recorded at a level in 2 subs that is not even displayed in Show Channels. Why are these unpatched channels, that are not used in the show anymore, still showing up in the Show Channels Flexi display?

It's one of those things that is hard to search for in the forums because it takes a paragraph to describe. Sorry if it's redundant.

The show itself originally came from an .asc file from an obsessionII I think.

Also we used the {Move To} and [Copy To] command to make changes in the patch and some of the channels that we repatched and moved around left behind unpatched channels that still have a Type label of dimmer. So when I do my channel check those empty channels show up "unpatched". How do I clear out the Type? I tried to delete one of the offending channels and then at enter and the Type dimmer came back. I didn't want to delete it permanently because it would effect what the designer is used to seeing. It would be cool if you could just hit type and @ enter or have a clear soft key.

Sorry this turned into quite the post but it's difficult to explain. Hopefully it makes sense to someone out there.

Thanks,

K

  • Hey K, Couple of things you might want to check, are the channels that are still showing up in Show Flexi recorded into any Groups or Palettes or Presets? Sometimes when opening from an .asc file things get stored in places you might not expect. Take a look at your targets, I bet something snuck in there.

If you really want to make sure that the channel is gone you can delete it in patch [x][delete][enter]. This will actually remove that channel from everywhere, while unpatching simply removes the address.

As for the channels returning to Dimmer, Dimmer is the default state for any channel unless you tell it otherwise. Are you looking for it to go back to null?

    Hope this helps

  • Lowell,

I'll quadruple check those target lists but I haven't been able to find where they might have snuck in. although it makes sense that .asc file origin may be part of the problem. Everything I've been able to find in manuals and supplements only mentions that Show Flexi shows channels that are recorded in subs or cues it's good to know that it may also show channels recorded to ANY target list.

I get that Dimmer is the default type for patched channels but when we were using either the {move to} or [Copy To] function the dimmer moved to the new channel but the old channel still has a type dimmer instead of being blank. The problem with the type staying dimmer in patch is when I do dimmer check the remote cycles through those unpatched channels thereby slowing down the check b/c it looks like something's out but really its those channels whose type has stayed dimmer but are actually unpatched. It's really only annoying but I'd like to clean it up if I can since this show is going on tour.

    Thanks!

    K

  • First question: What version of Code are you running?

Second Question: Are you doing a Dimmer Check or a Channel Check? A dimmer check will go throught address by address regaurdless of patched/unpatched or patch type (Null or Dimmer). A channel check however will go through only channels that have an address assigned, not just a type.

  • Also, i need to retrack a previous statment. I was mistaken, groups and palettes do not trigger show flexi mode just cues or subs. Sorry about that.

  • This may be pointing out the obvious, but just in case. Have you done an "About" on the channels that you think are deleted from the show to see where (or if)  the console thinks the channel is in use? When looking at the channel in the last cue of the show,  does it show a - (hyphen) , 0 or nothing inside the tombstone?

  • software version 1.9.2

Ok so I've found the sub that those channels were accidentally left in. I still have one channel hiding out somewhere but i'll go through again and find it.

And by dimmer check i mean channel check. I do a channel check in park with the rfr. So since I'm in the show channel flexi mode, channel check goes through channels displayed in that flexi state. Those channels that are unpatched and don't have a type have "unpatched" above them on the rfr display and those channels that are unpatched and have a type dimmer come up like any other patched channel. So part of the problem has been solved by simply removing most of those channels from that rogue sub but the channels that have a type dimmer still show up like any other channel in channel check.

  •

Yeah thanks Ben the channel situation in show flexi state is pretty much solved. I was I guess wondering if there were more places those channels could be hiding out than just the subs or cues but i found them and all is well on that front.

it's now more about the Type: Dimmer situation in patch.
