macros are defeating me

I've been trying to make a macro that will change the curve of a channel to curve 909.  I tried to use "Learn" which worked as I was recording the macro, but when I played it back it doesn't complete.

I tried using the macro editor with the same result.

To create the macro I go to the "Patch" screen, then the "Attributes" screen, enter the channel number, "curve" 909, enter.

It gets to the "Patch" screen and the "Attributes" area, but the word PATCH * is on the command line and the channel number doesn't enter.  I tried this with Scroll Lock on and off.  I can't seem to get the numbers to record into any macro.

I'm feeling a little desperate here.  Any ideas?

  • I don't have the console in front of me at the moment...and I'll will try to confirm this a little later today, but I believe you can fix this problem from inside the macro editor.

When you edit your macro, if you put an "enter" command after both the Patch and Attributes commands in the macro, that should allow the macro to fire the channel number and curve command.

I will add this to our database as an issue to deal with.  We have had some problems with other similar macros that include changing console modes such as going from Live to Blind.

I will post a confirmation that this works a little later today, if it doesn't I will try to find another workaround for you.

I've sat down in front of the console and have discovered that there appears to be a problem when changing the patch display over to the attribute format.  The good thing is, having that button hit captured in the macro doesn't really add anything to the ultimate result you are trying to reach.  As a result, if you edit your macro to look this the following, it should work as you described...

    Preview Patch <>

    1 Curve  909 <>

The curve command works independent of which mode the patch display is in.

I will work to get a fix for this problem into 1.3.

  • Derek,

I tried your suggestion.  I had to do "Learn" to get "Preview Patch."  (Is there a soft key that I can find on the Macro Editor screen?  That screen is profoundly confusing to me.)

What happens is the screen goes to "Patch," but the information line has Patch "Enter" and that's it.  It doesn't enter the numerals.

I tried a different approach.  The macro read:  Numerals (for channel numbers) Curve 909 "Enter."  This time the numerals were there but the curve doesn't appear.

Another way:  Numerals "Enter," Curve 909 "Enter."  No go.

Another way:  Numerals "Enter," Curve 909 "Enter" "Enter."  Sometimes this would work, but other times not.  I have no explanation why.

    Here's what I'm doing now:

I get to the patch screen, "Macro #" (this enters all of the channel numbers for me), go to "Patch Attributes" if necessary, "Curve" 909 "Enter."  This way I don't have to remember or re-enter all of the channel numbers at least.

The curious thing is that I can use "Curve" to get out of the 909 curve:  I get to the patch screen, "Macro #."  This macro is:  Numerals Curve "Enter" "Enter."  I noticed that to put the curve back to "none" it takes 2 "Enters."

I love using the macros, but I hate where the macro button is located.  Do you have an ETA on user defined buttons?

    Thanks for your help.

  • I'm afraid in 1.2 you won't be able to set the curve in a macro that way. The defect that is causing this is only a defect for applying curves and is the same defect that makes it require 2 enters to remove the curve. Both of these curve defects are fixed in 1.3.

There is a workaround though, from the patch display:

[learn 1 Enter] [chan 1 curve enter 901 enter] [learn] will create a macro that sets the curve in chan 1 to 901. The extra enter in the middle of the command line is ignored, but required in this case.

It's ugly, and it still requires you to go into patch first, but it's the only way in 1.2 to allow a curve to be set inside of a macro.

Hopefully Dan's solution works for you until the fixes come in for curves in 1.3.

As far as user defined keys, there are no current plans for providing an interface to allow a user to remap their keys, but you can set your direct select buttons to be used as Macro buttons.
