Auto-Expanding Palettes

Okay, had a thought.  Would it be a viable option or would enough people see the need for this based on this scenario;

You program a palette that has pan and tilt for a bunch of lights, then realize after the fact that you really would have liked to have zoom and iris or a gobo always attached to that focus, but you have already recorded that palette (with only the original pan and tilt values) into many cues.  Could there be an option, should there, to update a palette with more parameters than were originally recorded and have that expand the programming wherever the fixture in that palette was used to include the additional parameters?

 What do you think?

  • Hi Jason,

    I'd occasional see the need (but I personal prefer recording whatever possible & sensible into Presets [esp. Focus and Beam-form parameters together]) ;-)

    My suggestion for the "auto-expanding"-thingy would be keeping the IFCB-Pals "clean" (not mixing parameters) but using an option which could be part of the "Replace with"-feature, like:

    I'd record a preset (combing P/T and Zoom/Focus, filtering out "the rest" like Colour, Int etc) for the devices, and then would try to replace say FP1 with PR1, maybe using Blind Spreadsheet... "mark CUE x thru y, select channel, Focus Pal 1 REPLACE WITH Preset 1"; setting filters could define the PR1-parameters to be used or a little system message could prompt for using Focus-parameters or all parameters of PR1 ...?

    Does this make sense ?

    Cheers, Markus.
