ascii > offline editor issue

I'm trying to import an ascii file into the Ion offline editor but with only limited success. I've converted a Strand SSF to ascii (.alq) using Strand Showport without any problems. When I import into the Ion offline editor however, the cues are all there but they don't have any channel data in them??

There seems to be 2 routes when importing ascii file with the offline editor: 'import as libraray fixtures' or 'import as custom fixtures'. I've tried both of these routes but with the same results. I hope I'm just doing something wrong and missing something obvious!

  • USITT ASCII files should have a file extension as ".asc".

Maybe change that and try it again.

  • Hi there

Thanks for the advice. I've tried to import it with a .asc extension but the same thing happens. All cues (and groups and subs) are there in name only. They still contain no information other than name and intensity up / down times although in the duration column they all have a time of zero.

I'm also a little confused about the route I'm taking to import an ascii file. Neither of the 2 options seem to make sense:

    1. file > import > USITT ASCII > import as library fixtures > directory > .asc

    2. file > import > USITT ASCII > import as custom fixtures > directory > .asc

Am I going about this the correct way?

  • Hi, try to manually open the ascii file, and make sure the cue list is set to 1. If it is anything else, it will not import, as only patched channels are imported.

Let me know if you have problems and I'll have a look if you send the file.
