Channel Weirdness

First off, thanks to all who provided assistance in my palette questions...I appreciate the help!

I have a new one!

I have a conventional fixture, dimmer 62 patched into channel 70. I have a mover, channel 91 patched into channels 301-318.  This is confirmed through the patch tab.  I can use ch 70 and bring the fixture up and down.  Here is where it gets funky.  When I operate ch 91 (the mover), it works, but ch 70 is brought up to a low level.  It does NOT show that it is at ANY level in the "tombstone" view.  When I take ch 91 out, ch 70 goes out as well.  Again, *nothing* is patched into ch 91 other than the moving light .

Any thoughts!  Thanks in advance,

  • Hi Pat,

To start troubleshooting, bring up ch 91 and then do [about] channel 70.  This should show you what is affecting ch 70.  You can also do [about]{address} 62 to see what is controlling dimmer 62.

If the console is not sending out any level info for dimmer 62 when ch 91 is up, then I would look at your DMX routing and termination.  Some more info on the physical layout of the system would help there.

  • Thanks Todd,

I think there is something happening with the data as I have the dmx chain terminated  and the rogue fixture is still...well...roguey.  I went through the "about" and everything was clear.  Some of my students originally cabled the electric and frankly it is a spaghetti mess of data cables.  I am going to pull everything down and re-cable.  Maybe I can find the problem then!

    Thanks again,

  • I wonder why a data cable would cause a conventional to light up.  When I see this kind of interaction with conventional fixtures I start looking at the neutrals.  Just a hunch but check the circuit and any power cables for polarity issues.

    Good luck,

    Hal
