non-QWERTY ext. keyboard

hey there

living in a country that uses QWERTZ-keyboards i have a problem (i think since we updated to 1.9.5 and .6) with the external keyboard. while the touchscreen keyboard still works as it's supposed to, the external keyboard is now QWERTY. the configuration in the shell remained unchanged and still says "deutsch (schweiz)" (=swiss QWERTZ configuration). it's somewhat of a hassle to NOT press the keys according to the letter that's printed on it...

already tried changing the shell setting to US, restart and then back to swiss and restart, tried starting without the ext. keyboard and then re-plugging it, still not doing what it's supposed to do.

help?

cheers from switzerland

  • Servus Ueli,

I have just tried on an Eos and Ion with v1.9.6 (build 3),

with Deutsche-Swiss Keyboard setting, and I have the QWERTZ keyboard

layout. I have the German Sprache for language on the console set up,

and when I label a cue in a show, I get the entire Umlaut keys

and the Y is below and the Z is above in the middle,

when using an external keyboard. Are you using a German-Swiss keyboard via

USB? Or the english keyboard that was delivered?

What build of v1.9.6 are you using?

    (v1.9.6.9.0.3) ?

Are you using an Eos or Ion?

Could you take a screenshot of the keyboard layout on the console when you press LABEL?

    thanks and Greetings from Bayern!

we're using an external logitech keyboard with swiss layout, on an eos. i will find out the exact software version tomorrow. the onscreen keyboard works fine and has its supposed layout, it's just the external one, that's misbehaving.

i'm not at the desk today, but will find out some things tomorrow.

    thanks, ueli

  • hi corey

the eos is running 1.9.6.9.0.3 . the touchscreen keyboard shows the swiss flag as as key (bottom right) and it works fine. it's the external usb-keyboard that is misbehaving... i think it's this one: http://www.logitech.com/de-ch/keyboards/keyboard/devices/4740 .

  • Hi Ueli,

logitech doesn't have a manual of this keyboard online, but from the photo, it appears there are alot of special function keys on the keyboard. Maybe there is one that swaps the language of the keyboard layout? Since the Eos keyboard layout setting changes the Windows Embedded setting, if the keyboard had such a special function, maybe this is changing the keyboard layout. It would be interesting to hookup the usb keyboard that was delivered with the Eos console, or another USB keyboard, and see how this reacts after you set the keyboard layout to German-Swiss.

What theater are you working for? If you PM here to me your contact info, and when you will have some free time in front of the console, I can call you and we can do some troubleshooting.
