EOS Labelling questions

Just a few labelling related queries about EOS...

1) Is it possible to label palette pages on the direct select screen? e.g. to label Beam Palette Page 1 as 'Static Gobos' or Color Palette Page 3 as 'Scrollers', etc.. To give a quick indication of what's on each page when cycling through them.

2) Once an object has a label assigned, is there any way of editing that label rather than typing it all in again? e.g. if Cue 5 already has a label, [Cue][5][Label] lets me enter a new label, but starting from blank - which is annoying if it was a single character typo that needed changing...

3) When using the virtual keyboard, is there any way of getting the Shift key to latch rather than falling back to lower case after each key press?

4) Using an external keyboard, is it possible to edit cue labels directly on the 'Cue List Index' display rather than typing each one into the command line? On my old desk we could select the Label field of the first cue, type in the label and then click Enter, which would move the focus to the Label field of the next cue, etc. etc. - meaning I could label a whole cue list without taking my hands off the keyboard.

Cheers,

David

  • Hi David,

Here are some quick responses to each of your questions:

    1)  We have put a little bit of thought into the idea of putting labels for direct select pages.  Because of the fact the pages are somewhat dynamic (they can contain 20, 50 or 100 buttons and based on how you record them, they could possibly get moved around, especially if you record items with a decimal in the id number), we haven't come up with a good way of dealing with it yet.  Our current thought is possibly allowing a label for every row of 10 direct selects.  But at this point, we haven't decided on an approach yet.

    2) This again we have talked about.  Currently we don't handle labeling in that way.  But we have had similar requests, so we are looking into some different solutions to this problem.

    3) The only solution I have for you on this one is to use the Cap-Lock key.  This puts the virtual keyboard into a locked Shift state.  The shift button was intended to be a one time event which would be apply to the next button hit similar to the Windows Virtual Keyboard. (yuck...I said the "W" word!)  It's too bad touch-screens don't handle multiple touches.

    4) Currently we don't do this.  But what you are talking about is a good idea.  In a future release, we intend to do a better in-cell editing feature.  Doing what you describe will be on the list of items we will discuss when implementing this feature.

    Take care,

  • Hello David and Derek,

I am currently operating the EOS on it's maden voyage around the globe with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.  I was reading this post and it touches on a topic that I have been meaning to bring up to Anne.  I think that it would be helpful to have the ability to label these direct select pages, but to have a way to assign atributes to a 'user defined page' on each of the direct select screens.  I would like to be able to use a 'direct select assign' mode similar to the fader assign mode currently in the desk to customize the two or three blocks of direct selects that I am displaying.

For example, it would be helpful for me to be able to assign a row of color pallets to direct select 1-9 and then to also assign beam pallets to direct selects 11-19, and then have prests 20-39 be presets.

Another example, would be to have the ability to choose another user configurable page and assign it to be my groups; but not necessarially in numerical order and without displaying groups that have no channels assigned to them.  The ablity to assign Channels, Groups, Pallets, and Presets to any of these 'user definable pages' would be a huge asset to this desk, and one that I as a programmer would definitely embrace.

    Just a thought.
