eos offline - how to start ?

hi there,

probably a pretty dumb question, but how can i start the offline editor ?

when i start the installed file i get a window with the eos logo

and three buttons : client, offline and setup and i can only access the setup button...

i dont have a dongle or something, i just want to get in touch with that console

cause we have to decide whether we take the eos for some certain productions or not.

thanks,

mike

  • Hi Mike,

Very strange...  The only reason the "Client" and "Offline" buttons should be disabled is if Eos is already running.  Do you remember if you were *ever* able to click on them?

I will enter a bug report for this problem and we'll try to reproduce it here.  In the meantime here is a workaround...

    1. In the screen your described above, press the "Settings" button

    2. Press the "Start Up" button on the right-hand side

    3. Now you should see a drop-down menu in the "Start As" section.  Select what mode you would like to start Eos in, then press the "Accept" button near the bottom.

    4. Now, navigate to the folder "C:\Program Files\ETC\Eos" and then double-click the file "Eos.exe"

  • hi chris,

no, i downloaded and installed the editor today and the client and offline buttons didnt work from the first second,

i ve never seen anything else bout the startupscreen...going to try ur workaround next when im back at my mb !

btw, im running the eos software on bootcamp on my mbpro but that shouldnt be a problem ?!

    greets,

  • Hey Mike,

I haven't had the opportunity to personally test the Eos software on a Mac yet, so it's possible that it has something to do with the problem you are seeing.  Look for *native* Mac support in a future release though!

  • Mike,

I'm running EOS Offline on my Mac through Parallels with no problem. I've even reconfigured our Net3 gateway with my Mac through NCE on Parallels.  No dongle is necessary until you want to be in live communication with the desk network.  At that point, it's another process that ETC will need to help you with.

Perhaps it's an issue with bootcamp?  Being that boot camp is an unsupported product, there's noone to ask over at Apple...

Do an uninstall and delete all EOS related files and then reinstall.  Sometimes Windows just doesn't connect all the dots!  (Especially running on our Macs.)

    Just some ideas.

  • Personally, I'd be a bit surprised if something worked in Parallels on a Mac but not through Bootcamp.  I can't think of a good reason a program would work in virtualization but not natively.  I'd vote for some other cause.

That of course isn't an official word or anything... just a conjecture ;-).  I have no means of trying anything myself, as all my Macs are still PPC.
