Does the Virtual Media Server allow you to output "text" to say colour web?

well, kinda. but the text would need to be in a graphics file. there isn't any text generator in the media server itself...

You can also use use plain text files or simple html (web page) files to load text and use the virtual layer parameters to scroll it.

Ok. I have 10m x 10m of color web for a production of "Chicago" our school are doings do wanted to flash up "Roxie & Thelma" in letters on it. Having no experience of using the media server is this easy to do?

as long as you can set up your color web to be controlled pixel by pixel, i guess that should be fairly easy to accomplish. defining the pixelmap and all the patching might take a moment, but then you can record the content of your virtual media server into cue.

i don't know if it can show an ampersand but i'm sure chris can answer that.

on how to set up your virtual media server, i suggest you go to youtube and watch the Software 1.9.5 release video parts 2 and 3. the manual for version 2.0 and the supplement for version 2.0.1 have helpful information as well.

Hi guys. Can anyone help me with the setup of color web 250? I'm assuming I need to address it like I do a moving light? Secondly I aim to run it off of universe 2 on the Ion with generics and movers being on universe 1. Do I watched the video of patching a server but howdy you work this with color web? 

I seem to have eaten up loads if dmx addresses by patching 10 sections of web. 

Before we get too far into how pixel mapping works I fear there may be some other obstacles you need to consider.

A grid of 10x10 Colorweb 250 is probably going to way exceed the output count of your ION.

One panel of Colorweb requires 48 DMX addresses. 10x10 equals 100 panels which equals 4800 DMX addresses. (Over 9 universes)

It's unlikely that you'll be able to effectively pixel map this whole web from an ION.

Yes we shrunk this down a lot. We have it working now but want to send some text and jpg images across the colour web but finding it a bit difficult. We can upload the images no problem but they don't appear on the preview.

Are both the server Channel and the Layer Channel(s) at full?

In case anyone else comes across this thread, there actually is one more option for controlling more than 3k outputs on an Ion.  You can purchase a 3k "phantom" upgrade from ETC which will allow you to control up to 6k outputs.  Anything over 3k can only be controlled and patched via pixel mapping.

Ok. I have a pixel map setup now and can run a rainbow scroll across it etc etc. I have imported a text file in and also a JPEG and stored it in the library. When I come to select my image/text file from the library there is no output on color web or pixel map preview. Both the virtual server and the layer are live. Any help would be appreciated. 

Some things to check :

What Library Folder did you import your files into?

When you playback a rainbow that is via an effect layer?  Do you also have a media layer patched in that map?

The size of the Jpeg - if it's large and white text on black it is possible you are just seeing the black portions.

Library file 1 . I can see the txt file and a few other things I loaded up. There is the server on ch210, effect layer on 211 and layers on 212 & 213 & 214. When you say media layer do you mean the effect layer?

The Text file says "Chicago" on it and was done in word and saved as an HTML file and also a txt file.

When I say media layer I just meant what they call a Virtual Layer in the patch - not the effect layer.

If you want to post the showfile and the 2 files I'll take a look at it.  My guess is it's something simple.
