@ Colour Palette Label (x) Enter

After programming over the last week I still havnt decided how I like to set out my colour palettes.

Coming from a Strand desk I use to create my colour groups and then call up them via a simple command which was '@ Group text (x)'. x being the groups label which would also be the colour I'm calling up.

Now there are a few ways to do this on a Ion/Eos. I can make a colour palette and for example if I want a colour palette for L201 I can record it into Colour Palette 201. Allowing me to simply when asked by the designer to put the scrollers into L201 I press (c) @ Colour Paltte 201 Enter.

The problem is that with that method If you have colours all over the spectrum from R01 to L728, that they are not nicely displayed in your direct selects menu.

Would it be possible for a command similar to the strands, such as @ Colour Palette Label (x) Enter?

How do you set up your colour palettes?

  • I set up my CP in numerical order from lowest, open, to highest. And do it in sequential pallet numbers. For scrollers. I use a single row if the scroller has one scroll. If it has two or more. I try and isolate them each to a row. This is hard because we are not allowed many pallets across. And we cannot label what the grouping is. We just get page numbers. If my colors are not gel equivalent colors then they are put in ROYGBIV order. Or color spectrum order.

    i know the problem. coming from a desk that has some kind of flexi for the direct selects, i still don't know how to really efficiently with the way the eos works. on my old desk (which is by the way part of the ETC family too) i would have CP numbered according to the gel number and as soon as i selected channels, only the ones applicable to those channels. that way there was enough space to see even palettes with high numbers.

    i would love if the eos family would do that too, or if i could choose myself which palettes are shown in which space of the direct selects... but i have to say that your syntax has its good sides too.

    This is how I have been doing it. But working on a Ion I can only have two different types of palettes in the direct select menu at one time.

    The debate I'm having with myself is that I want to be able to have my Colour Palettes (mainlys for scrollers) all grouped together, as you explained all on one line 1-10 or 11-20 etc etc. This would mean that if the Designer chooses to call the colours by the frame number its fairly simple to remember.

    E.g Side light scroller start at Colour Palette 11, so frame 1 for will be 11, frame 2 will be 12 etc etc

    But if they call the colour by its number then I was hoping for a fast way of calling it up without pressing a direct select, which is usually not on the direct select menu as its usually got Macros/Preset/Beam or something else up there.

    Sammy that is the rub. I would suggest making a cheat sheet for fast reference when your direct selects are not loaded for colors. Or maybe using snapshots to get you into your color view.  I really wish that in the viewable space we could mix and match what is in the screen real estate. Macros. Beams. Colors. Positions. All in one space. 

     

    Are you mousing to your direct selects or do you have a touch screen?

    I have two touch screens but i have to say I don't use them.

    I probably need to train myself to use them alot more but I feel I want to keep my hands near the keypad.

    Snapshots are probably the way forward. I have been using them much more in this past Tech period. There deffinately a very nice feature.

    Hi Sammy,

    Assuming you are running 1.9.6, if you choose to open up your direct selects in a Tab you should now have access to 4x20 or 2x50 banks of direct selects.

    As you have 2 touchscreens it is nice and easy to switch between tabs by tapping the tab name at the bottom of the display.

    I always prefer to work with lots of banks of 20 direct selects to give access to multiple palette types. You can always expand any bank to century mode if you need to see more tiles quickly.

     

    I think Anne has plans for some sort of Direct Select Flexi modes, but I wouldn't like to comment on where that sits on her list at the moment!
