Using Scroller Fan Curves

With 1.9 we saw the addition of Scroller Fan curves in Patch in addition to the normal dimmer curves. However I'm not really clear on how this works. I've set up my scrollers to have individual control over each scroller fan, and I'd like the fan speed to match the intensity of that channel. I could just patch the second DMX channel for each scroller into the dimmer channel, but I'm thinking there must be a better way to do this. I tried just setting the Scroller Fan Curve setting to a few of the curves, but this didn't seem to help. Any ideas?

  • Hmm.... the scroller fan curve is automatically set based on intensity.  So, let's assume you patch a dimmer to part 1 and then a Coloram II fan Enabled to part 2.  Apply a linear curve, so that the fan speed matches the intensity output.  Go to live and set that channel to 50%.  You will not see the scroller fan parameter change live (this is considered a phantom output), but if you check about, background, DMX level, you will see that the fan is running at 50%.

    Hope that helps.

  • Ah, that's it, thanks. I didn't realize it would be considered phantom output. For a future release, would it be possible to have this value reflected in live? I always get nervous when I look down my channels and see the fan speed at zero, so I'd feel much better if there was some visible indication that the fan was running.

Also, this is slightly unrelated, but I'm not actually sure where I can see the actual DMX values. Is there somewhere that I can see the actual values being outputted from the console? About -> Current Values shows me the numerical value (like 100 for FL), but not the 8-bit value (255). And even this display shows the Scroller Fan at 0 even when a curve is applied. In About -> Background, most of the items in the DMX column indicated "Disabled", and I can't really find anything in the manual or the release notes that helps. Any thoughts?
