blackberry Troch as a USB drive?

does anyone know if it's possible to use a blackberry torch as a usb drive on the ION console. i'd love to have this for my show files as back up device as i have the phone with me all the time.

I'd rather not try it on mine cause the console is used daily, and i think that with a windows computer you need the drivers to possibly make it work.

Has anyone tried this and had it work?

  • Ion supports "USB Mass Storage" devices formatted as FAT or NTFS.

If your Blackberry has such a USB mode then it will probably work, however if it doesn't have that mode or requires anything to be installed then it won't.

  • Richard is correct.

I provide the following information to be used at your own risk. ETC does not warrant the use of cell phones as USB drives.

Blackberries are unique in that there are 2 ways to access the internal SD card via USB.

    - Phone Mode: Blackberry drivers must be installed and the data is routed from the SD card through the phone's main processor.  This method will NOT work on ETC consoles.

    - Mass Storage Mode: No additional driver needed. Data is accessed directly from the SD card. This method has worked on ETC consoles in the past, but proceed at your own risk.

Blackberries usually have a default mode. On your device go to "Options -> Memory" and you should be sure that "Mass Storage Mode" is "ON" and that "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected"  is set to "Yes" or "Prompt".  If the later, be sure to click "Yes" when the device asks you if you want to use mass storage mode after plugging it in to the console.

Again, It's your phone and console. Use your best judgment.

  • Well i did try this and here's what i found.

with the phone put in mass storage mode, it will work as a usb drive and i could save my show files to my phone.

if you accidentally put the phone in it's charge only mode, like you were to sycn it with your desktop it will do nothing and not show up as a drive on the console, the up side to this is the console (for me) still functions as normal.

    All this was tested on 2 Blackberry's a 9800 and a 9700 both running blackberry OS6.

Please head the warning above as your results my not be as good as mine.

  • I carry a $5 little USB stick SD reader. I've also used it with micro-SD adaptors and the card from my phone. It has worked with every ETC console and system I've run into.
