Desk Malfunction. Light locks on

Hi all

My desk has developed a problem.  I had this earlier in the year but it got fixed (I thought) when I updated to version 1.9.  Lately it has started doing it again tho.  I don't have much down time on the desk and have an external company in using the theatre for the next 3 weeks.

I need to know if it is a matter of doing a deep clean/ restore to factory settings (and if so how or what page of the manual do I have to read and will I have to reinstall 1.9) or do I have to send my baby in for maintenance.

the symptoms:

A channel (this time ch24, last time 167) will come on and show as being at full on the live ch. display every time I hit [record] [enter]  It doesn't happen if I just press enter of record,  Not sure if update enter sets it off, haven't tried that on these occasions.  I can tell it to go to 0.  and work perfectly fine until I record enter again.  If I 0 it it doesn't get recorded into anything.  recently it was going off when I hit [go] as well.  I checked it was not in the cues, it was not on a submaster, it was not on a fader, it is not a macro, it is not a switch or curve, there is nothing different about it's patch or dimmer.

I fixed it by turning the Ion off and on again.  So far no reoccurence, touch wood.

I have some dark time coming up in the theatre and would like to be able to send it off if that is what it needs then.

Cheers

JP

  • First of all, this is almost certainly not a hardware issue, so don't worry about that - this unexpected level will be coming from a real command somewhere.

The question is of course: Where?

To find this out, select the channel and hit [About]

This will pop up a load of information in the CIA, including the all-important detail of where the level of the channel is coming from. It should then be obvious how to get rid of it.

My first guess is that it's probably coming from a fader or a playback/cuelist that is not on the currently-visible page(s).

Something else to look at is the colour of the number - each colour has a meaning that helps you know where it came from - eg Red means a manually-set level.

  • High Richard.

Thanks for the response  it is reassuring.  Unfortunately it is an intermitant problem (all the best ones are) so I will have to wait for a while.

The color was red and I now remember it also occurred if Goto Cue enter was entered.

I was in cue only mode so it wasn't a hang on from a deleted cue etc.

I am wondering if maybe I have a DMX problem in my Dimmers that when there is no info being sent to the lamp it comes on.

Another operator in my venue has found he gets lamps coming on when he turns the desk off.

    Re coming from another playback/cuelist:

I made sure that I had gone to cue out or 0.  I also went through every page of Submasters and only had 1 cuelist, looking at the channel while it was up.  None of the subs or cues had this channel at full.

    Ah well

I will wait patiently and just hope I don't get to try your [About] suggestion.

    Sincerely

    JP
